Manifacturing Mugello
“La gestualità operaia negli ambienti delle fabbriche, o meglio nei suoi spazi enormi, così funzionali alle macchine che vi si usano e vi si costruiscono ma del tutto sproporzionato rispetto ai corpi di chi vi lavora, è il tema privilegiato di questo progetto di Ilaria Di Biagio.
I suoi scatti fanno tesoro della ricerca analitica di Bruno Munari, in particolare di quella sui segni e sui gesti, codici linguistici muti capaci però di dar conto di precise identità, e osservano da vicino, nel dettaglio, l’agire dell’operaio nel suo rapporto con la macchina e con gli oggetti che essa produce. La scelta di frapporre fra l’obiettivo e il soggetto fotografico il telo rosso ignifugo usato nelle fabbriche dai saldatori, nasconde i tratti somatici dell’operaio e al tempo stesso svela l’universalità dei gesti. In tal senso Ilaria Di Biagio restituisce caratteristiche decisive del lavoro nell’industria 4.0 di ogni luogo, che però nelle fabbriche palazzuolesi qui fotografate sono radicate in una scelta e in un’appartenenza territoriale e da queste in qualche modo compensate.” *

"Worker gestures in factory environments, or rather in its huge spaces, so functional to the machines that are used and built there but totally disproportionate to the bodies of those who work there, is the privileged theme of this project by Ilaria Di Biagio.
Her shots treasure the analytical research of Bruno Munari, particularly that on signs and gestures, mute linguistic codes capable, however, of giving an account of precise identities, and closely observe, in detail, the actions of the worker in his relationship with the machine and the objects it produces. The choice of placing between the lens and the photographic subject the red fireproof cloth used in factories by welders, hides the somatic features of the worker and at the same time reveals the universality of gestures. In this sense, Ilaria Di Biagio restores decisive characteristics of work in Industry 4.0 everywhere, which, however, in the palazzuolese factories photographed here are rooted in a territorial choice and belonging, and somehow compensated for by them." *
